Women's College was established in 1965 in Agartala, Tripura with a view to render services to the cause of Higher Education among women of Tripura, particularly those belonging to the tribal and backward communities of the State. The students generally hail from diverse economic social and cultural background making this institution an ideal place for the fulfilment of aspirations and expectations of the womenfolk of the State Women's College has been accredidated by NAAC considering academic & other extra curricular activities

NAAC graded our College in the rank of 'B'. So our college may be considered under the scheme of colleges with potential Excellency.The college being the only institute exclusively serving the female gender for higher learning has a mix of various categories of students coming from different strata of the society. The multicultural background of the students makes this college a unique milieu of cultural streams
The present role strength of the college is about 2576, and offers 19 subjects and out of which 12 subjects are offered as Honours Subjects. For academic and administrative support, there are 46 full-time teachers and 32 part-time teachers and 58 non-teaching staff
