Department of Sociology

Introduction

Department of Sociology is one of the youngest departments in Women's College. It started its journey in 2010 with the introduction of Pass Course. The Honours course was introduced in the year 2011. The intake capacity of the department in honours course is 20 and in pass course 40. The department has two full-time faculty members and one guest faculty.

The teachers are making ceaseless effort to impart quality education and using modern teaching aids to improve the teaching learning process. While emphasizing topics and themes central to the discipline, the Department's teaching methods have been oriented towards contemporary questions that have applied dimensions. The students are encouraged in self-learning, group discussion and presentation that help in their future exposure.

Majority of the students in this department belong to various tribal communities and their satisfactory performances helps in their empowerment. A good number of them also participate in NSS and NCC programmes. The teachers are constantly trying to participate in various seminar and conferences at the national level for exchange of views and ideas. For the last two years the students of this department are becoming the top scorers in the university exam with first class. The average success ratio is also high compared to the university average.

The department is dedicated to create bright future and all round development of the students by providing knowledge, fostering communicative skill, ethnic harmony, cultural activities and social services.
